I've been thinking for a while about how to make things a little easier within the X11 site, and I thought I'd have a punt at a plug-in, which I've finally gotten around to releasing. Note that this has been signed with AMO (and subsequently renamed), so existing users wishing to update may find that existing data is not retained.
Essentially, it records team and player details and allows calculation of a player's exact skill without having to move to a separate site. It stores calculated values and then displays them when you hover over a player's skill (almost) anywhere else on the site. It also records evaluation details, and gives a more precise value for a player's compatibility (in degrees left or right of the centre of the dial, -90 (left) to 90 (right)).
To use it, download the file from the link and run it in Firefox. Once that is done, it will work in the background picking up data from pages you view. I've opted against fetching data directly as the crew might not like it and it's a bit naughty if people have slow connections or data limits.
You'll want to visit pages in this order:
The lobby (which you are directed to when you log in anyway).
The squad page for each team - this loads player data.
The players bought page - this loads players' starting skill.
After that, you can go to the change reports page and, when you select a player, their skill should be calculated and stored.
The plug-in will also fetch details on evaluations (although you have to leave the page open for at least 3-4 seconds before you navigate anywhere else - sorry about that) and it should update the list on the market main screen with the player's evaluated compatibility and their estimated value (if they have one).
Next up, I'm looking to add reminders about CR training, warnings if PRs haven't been issued and notifications if players you declare an interest in are close to their deadline. I'm open to suggestions though about what would make people's lives easier.
If I get what I want to done on the FF plug in, I may look into Chrome but I will only really consider looking at those two browsers.

I absolutely love your blog and I visit it daily to see if you've written something new.
ReplyDeleteBut I hope that you don't take this "experiment" to far... Some of the aspects you are trying to make scripts about is things that I think is "a part of the game".
What's next?
*A script that based on historic data and tactic reports, takes out the best possible tactic for your next game?
*A script that based on available money, current squad and league possition, automatically buys the best suited players for your team?
*Etc
I feel the same way, scripts like this are great and congrats for Richard to work on it, but all this help could turn managers lazy and ruin the magic of the game!
DeleteAnd what will be the reaction of X11 admins to know this script exists? If they wanted this data to be known, they would show it, it could be an extra to VIPs!
The crew know about the plug-in, and they've not told me I can't. I've said it before - I'm _not_ releasing any new information that can't (and indeed, isn't) being found already.
DeleteMy next step is to add a reminder that you've not done a PR next week. It doesn't write a PR for you, but just points out you might have forgot. Is that ruining the magic of the game, or just quite handy?
I see where you're coming from, but I'd argue that I'm bringing nothing new to the table, just saving time in compiling data. Managers were trying to derive players' skill values long before I posted on my blog about it, for example.
ReplyDeleteDisplaying a player's skill on the page directly only saves people looking it up in their notes. Listing evaluation info only saves managers sifting through their evals one by one.
Next on my list are reminders if a PR hasn't been issued this week, when 'training day' is before a cr and alerts when evaluated players are reaching their transfer deadlines.
I'm not going near suggesting players to buy or tactics to use - they're all subjective and I'm not that good a manager anyway. I'm interested in cool (although your opinion may vary on that) time saving features, which is what a lot of the vip stuff is anyway.
Great stuff. I agree that it is mainly time saving, and not actually altering how people might play the game. I hope the X11 crew pick up on the transfer market stuff, that info should be included in the overview window by default.
ReplyDeleteFantastic plug-in. Love it! Thx :D
ReplyDeleteSir, you are a legend
ReplyDeletePlug-in has stopped working. Firefox doesn`t seem to accept it anymore. Know what to do?
ReplyDeleteFix the plugin and get it "signed" for Firefox. Mozilla has stopped the plugin from working because Firefox says it's not verified.
ReplyDeleteI need to try and get it through the AMO process to make it usable on a permanent basis. I need to familiarise myself with all sorts of technologies and do a code tidy to get things in order first, which could take a bit of time.
ReplyDeleteThat did the trick! Works perfectly again, thanks for the tip henke!
ReplyDeleteI'm using an older version of Firefox because of this add-on! Hope you can get it sorted so that firefox doesn't block it.
ReplyDeleteI see you've fixed the plug-in for Firefox. Thanks a million!

Many of you have considered installing the Firefox browser but haven't yet because of the unknown. Some of you may have even tried it but went back to IE (Internet Explorer) because no one was around to explain how to use and configure it. firefox 57
ReplyDeleteI know its a ballache and we really appreciate the effort, but any chance of getting it verified again? Have missed it a lot
